STEAMIN' 2010

CHRISTCHURCH STEAMPUNK FASHION SHOW

Calling all designers, costumiers, seamstresses, tailors, artists, artisans & technical wizards

Christchurch’s VERY FIRST dedicated Steampunk fashion show and exhibition is
timed for Spring 2010. Announced and promoted using our own original marketing in
February as “New Zealand’s first dedicated Steampunk Fashion Show”. You heard it first
from us here in Christchurch, and plans are in full swing, with themes, accompanying
content etc already well in place. It promises to be exciting and something a little
different. Details to be released soon!

RETURN TO THE PAST BUT FLY TO THE FUTURE!

Steampunk is an exciting and imaginative aesthetic genre rapidly growing in popularity
worldwide. It encompasses fashion, jewellery, art, craft, artisanal objects, mechanical and
industrial design, literature, music, films, theatre, video and interior decor. Its elements are based
essentially on Victorian and Edwardian Style, and Victorian Science Fiction, but it includes
elements from other genres and is very open to individual interpretation. Steampunk style can
include elements of Dieselpunk, Dandy style, Goth culture, Military Style (flying helmets and
goggles, traditional military uniforms), and Modern Science Fiction.

Whether you produce large or small clothing collections, costumes, or just enjoy making clothes
for yourself and/or family and friends; or if you are a professional artist, designer or technician
or like to spend your spare time tinkering around in the back shed or garage making interesting
things, we would love to hear from you.

Applications are open to all, and we are currently taking expressions of interest from those who
would like to participate in all aspects of the show, including exhibitors, artistic and technical
crew.
